I think those around us just don't fully understand the ups and downs like we do. They don't really grasp how many times we have gotten our hopes up only to be left disappointed and devastated. Sometimes I feel sad that I have become so jaded by this process that I can't join in on the excitement that everyone else feels. But I realize that protecting myself has become adaptive and when I am ready to let go and fully be excited I will.
